Notice of the President (November 20, 2007)
After series of consultations last week, I attended a roundtable discussion Monday, November 19 at 3:30 p.m. at the MMSH. The objective of this roundtable, which went all the representatives who were invited, was to study the possibility of a quick reopening of the site Schuman. A frank, thorough and useful occurred. I fully understand that the players in our community, like myself and the management team, want this reopened.
However, if the site has been closed, for a compelling reason and now everyone has understood: the security of persons and property. Reopening under conditions of safety not guaranteed is not sustainable beyond a few hours. This reopening is however possible when the staff and students can work, circulate or discuss the building safely. It will be compatible with the expression of a student movement that chose other forms that blocking or "filtering" that a large majority of staff and many students have told me they were opposed.
Nobody wishes more than I do the quick reopening of the site Schuman. The careful consideration of its possibility, in safety and dignity of all, is my constant preoccupation.
